One time when no one else was around Sun Ra told me that he wasn’t really from Saturn. I’m sure he saw my alarmed reaction but he didn’t say anything about that; he simply went on to say that he was born on Jupiter but he grew up on Saturn (and allrightness was restored to the earth).
We celebrated Sun Ra’s centenary last week and tonight from 6pm to 9pm on WKCR 89.9FM and wkcr.org Eric Person and I put Sun Ra in Deep Focus. I will also ask Eric about his upcoming appearance at Jazz at Lincoln Center this Wednesday evening.
